Road rehabilitation has become a distinguished feature of the Roosevelt Skerrit-led administration. The effects can be seen across the length and breadth of the country and Marigot is not exempt.
Public Works Minister, Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore made the announcement during Thursday’s sitting of Parliament. He disclosed that work is expected to commence on the Over Gutter Road in Marigot soon.
The Public Works Minister was responding to concerns by the Member of Parliament for the Marigot Constituency Hon. Edison James.
The concerns in question by the Member of Parliament for the Marigot Constituency were:
Minister for Public Works responded with the following statement. “We recognise the need for routine intervention for keeping the over Gutter Road in a motorable condition. For this reason, emergency repairs are planned to commence within the next four weeks while the most substantial work is planned for a later stage during the 2013/2014 fiscal year after securing the required monetary allocations.”
The Minister stated that his ministry is aware of the importance of the Over Gutter Road to residents of that community.
He says, “Based on the technical assessment carried out by the technical services of the Ministry of Public Works Energy and Ports, approximately seven hundred (700) metres or two thousand, two hundred and ninety-seven (2297 ft) feet of roadway from the Dam/Rose Hill Junction to the intersection of this road at Weirs, will require complete rehabilitation.”
The Minister also emphasised the possibility that the road could serve as a diversion.
“I’m also aware of the potential use of this road as a diversion to the existing Marigot Melville Hall Airport and to the main road in the event of an emergency and that Madam Speaker should be agreed by all. In the meantime, I wish to inform the Hon. Member for the Marigot Constituency that the associated cost for the required repair intervention for the Over Gutter Road is estimated at one million and nineteen thousand, six hundred and thirty-six dollars and forty cents.”
