Students of the North East Comprehensive School will be attending classes in a much more comfortable learning environment come September 2012.
Parliamentary Representative for the Wesley Constituency Hon. Gloria Shillingford who represented Education Minister Hon. Petter Saint Jean at the school’s recent graduation ceremony revealed that the Ministry of Education will be undertaking a number of renovations works at the school this summer.
“Here at North East Comprehensive School we have recognized improvements that need to be made in order to ensure that education continues in a setting conducive to learning”.
The Ministry of Education during the summer months will replace faulty windows in time for the resumption of classes in September.
“Furthermore the auto mechanics room and facilities for classes in woodwork will be ready for use in September,” Shillingford said.
Mrs. Shillingford added that while the Ministry of Education operates within constraints the maintenance of schools remains a top priority.
Mrs. Shillingford expounded on recent significant investments made in the Education Sector.
“Government’s efforts at ensuring quality education include the many scholarships provided to Dominican students both within the school system and for study overseas. School transfer grants, school bus services, school registration grants, uniform allowance, the school text books scheme as well as payment for private bus drivers transporting students to and from school”.
Meanwhile Principal of the North East Comprehensive School Mrs. Chandler Hyacinth is excited about the school renovation project which she says will enhance the schools learning environment.
“As we look to the future we welcome our new cupboard walkway, we will welcome the replacement of our classroom windows in September. We look forward to the opening of the new technical wing and the broadening of our new programme offerings”.
The North East Comprehensive School opened its door in September of 2006 to a combination of students from the Marigot Secondary and the St Andrews High School.
