NEW CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND TO ENCOURAGE SOCIAL SKILLS

Easter Sunday kicked off with excitement for the children of Dominica when the Peebles Park playground was officially commissioned. The opening of the playground was welcomed with its first ever “Easter Eggstravaganza” where they engaged in a number of activities.

The newly commissioned Peebles Park play ground is part of Government’s mandate to create a modernized city for both citizens and visitors.

Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency, Hon. Melissa Poponne-Skerrit has partnered with the Peoples Republic of China to see the fruition of the children’s playground.

“The playground equipment that you see here has been donated by China and again we thank them for responding so readily to our request to build a playground for the children of the Roseau Central constituency.  He worked with me alongside the previous ambassador to ensure that the equipment was shipped and installed promptly so that our children of Roseau and the environs could have a place for recreation and play. This space here will provide us with a  safe area where they can themselves engage in free and spontaneous play and express their fun loving nature, a place where they can take a break from their tablets and phones and develop their social and emotional skills” Hon. Poponne-Skerrit stated.

Prime Minister of Dominica Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit believes socializing is important for the holistic development of the children. He noted that the playground initiative is one of the many developments carded for the children.

“I have no doubt the children will enjoy this park. It will come alive. It will be a safe place where we can bring our children to recreate and I am hoping that we can have more of this taking place in this park so it can become truly a family park. One of the other things that we will be working on is the construction of pblic swimming pools in many communities across Dominica, to encourage our children t learn to swim, in safe spaces, and to recreate. So you will be seeing Government constructing public swimming pools and playgrounds across Dominica so that we can get our children to be out of their homes and socialize with their friends ou of the school,” Prime Minister Skerrit explained.

China’s Ambassador to Dominica, His Excellency Lin Xianjiang commended the Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency, Hon. Melissa Poponne Skerrit for her commitment to the development of the city. He believes that this initiative is one of the best gifts one can give to the children.

“We finally see the beautiful children’s playground completed. The equipment in the children’s playground was specially designed and manufactured in China using durable material so they can withstand the sun and the rain and provide the children with the most safe and fun experience. Only some of the equipment were installed here, the others will be installed in other places. This playground creates a new space for the children to come and play and relax after school, on the weekends and even on holidays,” His Excellency Lin Xianjiang added.

The new children’s playground will encourage child development by promoting social skills. It will also aid in building healthier minds and bodies.
