Morocco and Dominica sign technical cooperation agreement in agriculture

The governments of Dominica and the Kingdom of Morocco recently signed a technical cooperation agreement in Agriculture.

The agreement among other things will allow the Kingdom of Morocco to share expertise with Dominica in deciding what type of fertilizer should be used on the island.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2010, the Kingdom of Morocco has been making a meaningful contribution to the islands agriculture sector through the grant of high grade fertilizer.

Prime Minister Skerrit says during his recent visit to Morocco he explored further discussion on fertilizer assistance for Dominica.

“One of the critical areas we discussed was the need for a comprehensive study to be done on the soil types Dominica and what type of fertilizer is best suited. As it is now we basically use the same fertilizer everywhere. We need to determine the best fertilizer to be used in Dominica”, PM Skerrit emphasized.

The Prime Minister said the Government of Morocco will continue to provide the Ministry of Agriculture with high grade fertilizer for use by the island’s farmers.

“We are expecting a new shipment of fertilizer from the Government of Morocco by May 2013. We are expecting about two hundred and forty tons” PM Skerrit confirmed.

Since the signing of diplomatic relations between the two countries back in 2010 Dominica has enjoyed excellent relations with the Kingdom of Morocco in a number of fields not limited to agriculture but in areas such as tourism, and human resource development.
