Government Responds Decisively to School Roof Collapse

The government of Dominica has voiced serious concerns and is taking prompt action following the collapse of a concrete roof at the Dominica Grammar School construction site on Monday, June 16. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

In a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, June 17, the government outlined immediate steps to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, prioritizing the safety of students and staff. An independent investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the structural failure. An engineering firm will be hired to conduct a comprehensive assessment and provide a detailed report.

In response to the incident, all other structures under construction at the site will undergo rigorous inspections to evaluate their structural integrity and confirm compliance with safety standards. All construction activities have been suspended immediately until the investigation is complete.

A joint team from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Works has been appointed to oversee the entire process and ensure all necessary corrective actions are implemented. The government reiterated that the well-being of the students, teachers, and staff of Dominica Grammar School is paramount, and their safety will not be compromised.
