Government Moves to Improve Hotel Stock on the Island

The Government of Dominica continues to pay attention to improving the hotel stock on the island.

That’s the word coming from Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.

The country’s leader told overseas-based nationals this week that the construction of a 65 room hotel in Portsmouth by the Kingdom of Morocco will create sustainable jobs for Dominican citizens.

“We are constructing a sixty-five room hotel in Portsmouth funded by the Moroccan Government. This is no doubt a great investment by the government of Dominica to create sustainable jobs and to have more hotel rooms”.

The Prime Minister says while his Government is not interested in taking the place of the private sector to develop the Tourism and Hotel sector Government has stepped forward and decided to partner with a major hotel chain to construct a major hotel project in the Woodfordhill community.

Hon. Skerrit says Government views this as another opportunity to provide employment for people skilled in the hotel sector.

“We have stepped forward and very soon again we will be partnering with Six senses for this major project in Woodford hill. We are looking for people to manage the hotel for us. We are not interested in managing the hotel. People who have skills and who have competencies in Hotel Management will be given an opportunity to manage the hotel. Our interest is to create jobs and economic activity” the Prime Minister explained.

The Prime Minister announced that through the Dominica Agricultural Industrial & Development Bank - AID Bank a number of opportunities have been created for the private sector to invest.
