There has been an education revolution taking place in Dominica. That point has been emphasized by Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit when he addressed a group of overseas-based nationals at the Krazy Koconuts earlier this week.
The Prime Minister says in recent years there has been a transformation in the number of students who now have access to primary, secondary and college education.
“We have achieved Universal access to Secondary and we are well on our way to achieve Universal access to Early Childhood Education. When we came into office only seven percent of our high school graduates had access to the College. I attended the Dominica Grammar School and in that year 122 of us graduated from the Grammar School and only 20 of us made it to the College. We cannot build a country if you not able to provide your citizens with skills and improved qualifications because all we will be doing are we will be importing consultants into our country to advice us on things.”
The Prime Minister also took time to expound on the recent infrastructural developments taking place in Dominica, including the New Dominica State College.
“Take a drive to the new Dominica State College now being constructed. This is a $30m investment in the young people of this country. And we will have the most modern community college structure in the entire O.E.C.S region and by extension CARICOM,” the Prime Minister disclosed.
