HON. DR. VINCE HENDERSON SWORN INTO PARLIAMENT

Hon. Dr. Vince Henderson has been sworn in as Member of Parliament for the Grand Bay Constituency as the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Tenth Parliament got underway on Monday November 29, 2021.

Dr. Henderson won the Grand Bay by-elections with a significant majority over two independent candidates on Thursday, November 25, 2021 with a total of 1,230 votes.  

“I am humbled to return to the Parliament once again. I did not plan to but the occasion that has brought me there has put me in deep reflection; and I want to thank the people of Tete Morne, Montine, and Grand Bay for their warm welcome and hospitality, allowing me to visit their homes, their institutions, their churches, to meet them where they live, where they work, where they recreate, ad to treat me as their brother, as a son, someone who is a member of their family,” Dr. Henderson stated.

The new MP went on thank the constituents for giving him a chance to represent them in the House of Assembly.

“I also want to thank them for the support that they gave to me and the Dominica Labour Party on November 25th. I want to thank them for the confidence they have shown in the leadership of the Dominica Labour Party and the Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit and in the Labour Party as an institution,” Dr. Henderson added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit expressed his full confidence in the newest Member of Parliament and his ability to contribute to the development of Dominica.

“I have no doubt Mr. Speaker that he is going to come to this house and of course to the governance of this country to make a very sound and sterling contribution. We presented Dr. Henderson to the people of Grand Bay and they have responded with a resounding ‘yes’ to his candidacy and to the Dominica Labour Party,” PM Skerrit stated.

Meanwhile numerous Bills will be introduced during this sitting of Parliament, including a Bill for an Act to Amend the Title by Registration Act, Chap. 56:50; a Bill for an Act to Amend the Stamp Act, Chap 68:01; a Bill for an Act to Amend Income Tax Act, Chap 67:01; and a Bill for an Act entitled Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property.

Parliament is currently debating supplementary estimates for the financial year ending 30th June 2021 amounting to two hundred and seventy five million, one hundred and fifty thousand, three hundred and twenty seven dollars and thirteen cents ($275,150,327.13).
