Prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that a contract for the development and construction of an international airport will be signed before the end of May 2021.

The contractual agreement, which was revised by Cabinet earlier this week, will be signed by the Government of Dominica and Montreal Management Consultants Establishment Limited (MMCE).

“Well the Cabinet met Wednesday 19th May 2021 to consider the draft principle agreement for the construction of the Dominica International Airport. I must report that Cabinet, with some amendments, approved of the agreement for the construction of the international airport for Dominica. And that agreement will be signed between the Government of Dominica and Montreal Management Consultants to develop and construct the international airport, utilizing the funding mechanism of the Citizenship by Investment Programme,” PM Skerrit stated.

He noted that this has been a long awaited project for Dominica over the past few decades.

“I believe this is an important step for the country. We’ve all since the 40s 50s 60s been seeking to build an international airport for our country and now we are well on our way to achieving this dream for Dominica. So we look forward to signing this agreement by the end of May 2021 so that the associated next steps can be advanced towards the realization of our international airport,” the Prime Minister explained.

PM Skerrit went on to say that Government is optimistic that when built, the international airport will benefit all sectors of the economy noting, “we are confident that the airport will be constructed so that we can be further assured of our continued economic and social development and advancement.  And to sustain the gains that we have made in our investments in our country through tertiary education, human resource development, tourism, the travel industry and also agriculture.”

PM Skerrit further encouraged all citizens to play their part as the country undertakes this massive investment.

“And so my hope and prayer is that we can all play our part in this country to ensure that dream of the international airport is realized and I am very humbled to be the leader of the country at this time and with the hope of realizing the largest infrastructural project in the history of our country and one which will help define in large measure the future prosperity of our country Dominica,” PM Skerrit added.
