The Ministry of Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security has donated food to institutions caring for needy citizens as part of the celebrations of World Food Day 2020.
World Food Day was observed on Friday, October 16 2020 under the theme “Grow, Nourish, Sustain, Together. Our Actions are our Future”.
The Dominica Infirmary, Operation Youth Quake and the Grotto Home received packages of fresh produce, fresh meat, fruits, vegetable and green seasoning provided by local farmers.
Minister for the Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture, and National Food Security, Honourable Fidel Grant described the donation as timely.
“We are here celebrating World Food Day, and as the Ministry of Agriculture, we thought that it was timely and symbolic that we donate healthy nutritious foods to these institutions. The foods come from various agricultural stations including the Chinese Technical Mission, and a few of our farmers who have dedicated over the years to donating some of their hard work to these institutions,” Honourable Grant stated.
The Agriculture Minister then made a commitment to continuously provide fresh food to these institutions.
“We are making this contribution, and it will not be the last. We continue to donate food and fresh meat to these intuitions, as they are really charitable institutions, and cannot always afford to buy food. So I am making the commitment here that we will be continuously donating fresh food, vegetables and meat to these institutions. Let me say thank you too all the farmers who donated and to the hardworking staff of the Ministry of Agriculture who continue to work well with our farmers and continue to do well for Dominica as it relates to Agriculture,” Minister Grant added.
Acting Director of the Dominica Infirmary, Ms. Clannis Jno. Baptiste thanked the Ministry for their donation.
“I would like to say on behalf of everyone thank you very much. Thank you to the farmers who work tirelessly to produce the goods. Thank you to the Ministry for assisting us. We appreciate this, I know during this covid time it is a challenge but you all remembered that we are here continuing this work so thank you very much,” she stated.
