VACANCY NOTICE

Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation is seeking suitable qualified applicants for the post of Senior Mechanic.  The successful applicant will be required to handle servicing, repair, routine maintenance, and care of a variety of vehicles and equipment in the Corporation’s Fleet Service. This is a technical and skilled position.

The main duties will include the following:

·         Ensures vehicles are road worthy by repairing and maintaining the vehicles in good and safe working order.

• Test drives vehicles, and test components and systems, using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices.
• Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other areas.
• Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
• Tears down, repairs, and rebuild faulty assemblies such as power systems, steering systems, and linkages.
• Checks status of various equipment in the Corporation, identifies mechanical problems, makes adjustments and repairs as needed, reports equipment status and conditions to Supervisor.
• Accurately calibrates and adjusts equipment and mechanical devices.
• Performs other such duties and functions as may be necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position

Qualification and personal qualities:

The successful applicant must be a dedicated and highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills with the following:

• Posses a Diploma in Auto Mechanics or a vocational technical diploma in auto repair or relevant field.  Knowledge of diesel and gas engines is essential.

• Must have sound knowledge of electrical & hydraulic systems of vehicle management

• At least five (5) years working experience in a garage.
• Must posses a valid Class C driver’s license.
• Computer literate with knowledge of Word Processing; Spreadsheet.

Remuneration:

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
