Seventy-eight (78) individuals earned certification from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) after successfully completing training in the areas of Front Desk Operations, Housekeeping and Food and Beverage. This globally recognized industry certification has equipped participants with the skills required to enter the hospitality workforce with recognized credentials.
The recently concluded training was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism and
Culture, Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Organization of American States (OAS) and the Dominica State College. The courses were offered in succession of one another over a four (4) week period.
With the advent of the opening of new properties such as Jungle Bay Resort and Cabrits
Resort and Spa Kempinski
Dominica, DDA adopted an approach to prepare citizens to acquire the necessary skills and tools required to earn gainful employment. It is imperative that efforts are undertaken to equip the labor force with a variety of training programs to ensure a pool of well-trained human resource.
DDA anticipates that the newly certified service providers will apply the knowledge gained into their respective fields in order to improve the quality of service delivered to guests and patrons.
DDA reaffirms its commitment to the development of the tourism industry’s human resource as excellent customer service impacts positively on guests’ experiences.
