The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica continues to create overall human resource development avenues, and encourage Dominicans to take advantage of every opportunity to develop their personal and organizational skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Through friendly consultations and negotiations, the Government reached an agreement with the People’s Republic of China for the sponsoring of Bilateral Technical Training courses that responds to Dominica development needs.

One of these Bilateral Technical Training courses " 2019 Bilateral Seminar on Tourism Development and Management for Dominica " sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China (MOFCOM) scheduled for the period 9 to 29 October 2019 is currently taking place in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, and the Government of Dominica has provided a full complement of 25 candidates.

The candidates were drawn from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Dominica State College; Dominica Community Tourism Association Inc. Forestry Division, Waitikubuli National Trail, Discover Dominica Authority, Dominica Hotel & Tourism Association, Invest Dominica Authority, Dominica Taxi Association and Dominica Tour Guides Association.

The Seminar combines teaching with practical hands-on training and demonstrations in the area of Tourism Development and Management, as well as field visits and educational tours of some of China’s foremost tourism plants, and direct interaction and exchanges with Chinese Tourism Authority. The Dominican candidates shall also be provided quality time to showcase and promote the Nature Isle.

The four-week Seminar should allow the 25 Dominican participants to deepen their understanding of Tourism Development and Management, and the related Industries and Services, and provide a good foundation for further exchanges and cooperation between China and Dominica.

The opportunity granted to the tourism stakeholders is very timely and complements current efforts by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in building capacity of practitioners in the tourism industry as we seek to improve the quality of the product and services offered.

The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on behalf of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica expresses deepest gratitude to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China for the continued support and assistance over the last 15 years towards the overall development of Dominica.
