Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit says public officers are to benefit from government's future housing development programme.
"That is the ‘Future Housing Development Programme' in Warner will target public officers, private sector employees, and also people in the diaspora. And so if you are a public officer, that home will be assigned to the Government Housing Loan Board who will then sell it to you. But it will be sold to you at cost so there will be no profit margin for the Government in this. So if the house costed us 300,000 dollars, we will sell it you at 300,000 dollars and possibly at a 0 percent interest rate to the public officers," Hon. Skerrit stated.
Prime Minister Skerrit says a special rate will be given to private sector employees.
"And banks who want to participate, as people who work in the private sector are unable to contract loans from the Government Housing Loans Board, will reduce the price of the house to reflect a reduction in the interest rate had you been a public officer. And if you are in the diaspora, you wouldn't benefit from any special benefit but you will be able to purchase property. But we will be speaking about this in the budget," the Prime Minister added.
