The Adult Education Division hosted its National Graduation Ceremony where six hundred and sixty six participants received certificates upon completing their programmes.

The graduation ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 20, under the theme ‘Building a Foundation for a Sustainable Society through Adult Education.’

Adult Education Officer, Ms. Nadia Ferrol-Pinard congratulated all the participants who successfully completed the training programmes which ranged from bartending, mixology, hair braiding and solar panel installation.

”It is truly a major accomplishment for the Adult Education Division, the Ministry of Education and Dominica by extension as we proudly boast of having trained six hundred and sixty six participants from the period January to August 2023. My heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates on your accomplishment. This was only possible through the assistance of the Government of Dominica, the hardworking staff of the Adult Education Division, our diligent facilitators and you our amazing participants. I am truly grateful,” Ms. Ferrol-Pinard stated.

Ms. Pinard says the Adult Education Division remains committed to providing adults seeking further education with the skills needed to start a new career.

“The Adult Education Division continues and will continue to provide quality education for all. Our Adult Education Division programmes offer you the foundation needed to begin your new career or enhance existing ones. These programmes are specifically designed to help adults boost their level of understanding with reading, writing, mathematics, the basic knowledge required to enter post-secondary education, training and skills training. All of our programmes are designed to help you prepare to enter the workforce and adapt into the community. Your attendance here is evidence that the Adult Education Division is alive and doing very well in Dominica,” Ms. Ferrol-Pinard added.

Participant in the Solar Panel Installation Programme, Mr. Jess Jno. Hope says other than the practical lessons; the programme taught him many important skills such time management and patience.

He encouraged other young people to register and take part in the available programmes.

“It is of great pleasure and honour to be a part of this. I’d just like to encourage the other young folks out there, if you are not doing anything, find something to do, at least one skill. It doesn’t matter what it is, it might be laying blocks, but just learn one thing, master it, become great at it and you’ll amount to something one day,” Jno. Hope stated.

Minister for Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training And National Excellence, Hon. Octavia Alfred congratulated the participants on taking the step to improve their lives.

“Today is just one achievement of many. Therefore you must continue to improve your skills and knowledge and to apply determination and effort to overcome the challenges you face. As you continue to improve yourself and build your capacity, be mindful of attitudes that lend themselves to your attainment of excellence. A positive attitude can serve as a ticket to success. Self-confidence, respect, tolerance, persistence, responsibility, generosity and gratitude place you on a sound footing in both your personal and professional relationships and help you to build mutual and beneficial ties that place you on the path to success,” Minister Alfred stated.
