Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has express sympathy and solidarity with the people of Morocco following a devastating earthquake last week.
A 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco late in the night on Friday. September 8. Over two thousand eight hundred and sixty people have been confirmed dead as a result of the deadly quake.
The earthquake severely damaged towns and villages at the base of the Atlas Mountains including the city of Marrakech.
Prime Minister Skerrit says we in Dominica are well aware of what it is to go through disaster and Dominica will assist Morocco in whatever way it can.
“I have the opportunity to extend to this Majesty the King and the Government and People of Morocco our condolences and solidarity. We look forward to ourselves making a contribution to their efforts as small as it may be, because they have been true friends of Dominica in all seasons, all the time. and we have over the years built a very strong bilateral relationship between the Kingdom of Morocco and Dominica and they are very sincere friends of Dominica. And we stand with them in prayerful solidarity but certainly we will play a small part in their recovery efforts and we continue to pray that they will find more survivors under the rubble,” Prime Minister Skerrit noted.
Dominica and Morocco established diplomatic relations in 2010.
