Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, moved by the dire situation at the old Grotto building has made available $10,000 towards that institution.
The cash injection which was promised by the Prime Minister during a surprise visit to the institution on Tuesday was officially presented to the President of the home on Wednesday afternoon.
Prime Minister Skerrit also pledged an additional $100,000 towards the construction of the new Grotto building, which he said would be made available in the next few weeks.
This new building is currently under construction in Bellevue Rawle.
The funds presented by the Prime Minister came from the Dominica National Petroleum Company Ltd “which is a joint venture with Petro Caribe.”
The Prime Minister indicated that he will visit the new facility in the next few weeks. He also pledged his continued support towards assisting the Grotto home.
The new Grotto home, which is expected to cost some $2.5-million dollars, will be complete by 2014 and according to officials, will house up to 100 residents.
