Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services on Monday, received over 1300lbs of uniform and equipment that will assist the department in fulfilling its duties.
The donation was made by Global Fire-a Canadian-based charitable organisation.
Global Fire is a non-profit outfit which helps fire services of various countries to develop their personnel with both training and equipment consideration.
Patrick Bradley of Global Fire gave an overview of the work of his organisation.
“As a charitable organisation, we find countries and organisations that require equipment and training and provide professional fire fighters from Canada to conduct training sessions to countries such as this one. We train in fields such as fire fighting, forcible entry and water rescue. This helps make a better community and a better service.”
Chief Fire Officer, Josiah Dupuis extended thanks to both Patrick Bradley and Bob Geilen of Global Fire for the support.
I want to express gratitude on behalf of the Government of Dominica and the Dominica fire and Ambulance Services to Global Fire for what you have done for us.”
Global Fire also conducted training with the personnel of Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services including trained volunteers from the communities of Bioche, Castle Bruce, San Sauveur, Good Hope, Petite Soufriere, Calibishie and the Kalinago Territory.
Chief Dupuis was grateful for that training as well.
“Global Fire is not just about donating equipment but they are also very interested in training exercises. Over the last six days, they have engaged our fire officers in practical firemanship and search and rescue skills. Feedback from the trainees reveals that they are in act better for the exercise.”
Training facilitator, Patrick Bradley applauded the firemen and volunteers of the course for a job well done.
“All the fire fighters who were on the training performed extremely well...we are very impressed with the efforts put forward by your firemen. The people of Dominica should be very happy with the service provided by the Chief Dupuis Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services.”
Emergency response volunteers will also benefit from the Global Fire donations.
