An airplane carrying seventy thousand (70,000) doses of the AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine landed in Dominica at approximately 7:35 pm on Tuesday, February 9 2021 as Dominica continues its fight against the covid-19 virus.
Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, along with the Acting Minister for Health, Wellness and New Health Investment, Hon. Kent Edwards, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dr. Kenneth Darroux and other Members of Cabinet welcomed 70,000 doses of the AstraZenca covid-19 vaccine to Dominica at the Douglas Charles Airport.
This vaccine is a grant donation from the Government of India and will assist the Government of Dominica in the roll out of its vaccination programme.
Prime Minister Skerrit expressed his gratitude to the Government of India stating that his request was considered based on merit.
“I would like to take this opportunity to once again express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Prime Minister Modi, his Government and the citizens of India. I want to recognize the scientists and all of those who are responsible for the tireless research and trials that went into manufacturing this formula for resistance,” he stated.
PM Skerrit added that “the highly hailed Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine that we have taken possession of this evening, will ensure that Dominica will launch the largest vaccination campaign in modern history.”
Acting Minister for Health, Hon. Kent Edwards reassured citizens that Ministry has a comprehensive plan to ensure the success of this vaccine.
“Be assured that the outcome of the covid-19 vaccine is anticipated to be as successful as our previous vaccines administered under the primary health care by a team of competent health care providers. I am confident to say without a doubt the process of receiving and administering the AstraZeneca vaccine will be just as successful. I encourage everyone to volunteer to receive the vaccine,” Hon. Edwards urged citizens.
