“We have heard much talk as it relates to feeder roads. Mr. Speaker the repair of farm access roads will be on the agenda during this financial year as a Government but as the Parliamentary Representative for the Wesley constituency I have forged a collaboration with RENO, a construction company which is operating out of Londonderry. They have agreed to assist in making more access available to our farms. An area we call Mango Gutter is already under construction and should be complete very soon. We have also seen the rehabilitation of Paradise View Road; we have seen the complete resurfacing of the Sparrow Junction to Joe Burton Road and the complete resurfacing of the Woodford Hill Main Road,” Minister Grant stated.
A cooperative for producers will also be formed as the minister moves to fulfill a direct request from residents of the constituency.
Minister Grant says training will soon commence, before the establishment of the cooperative.
“One of the requests from my constituents to form a productive cooperative. Therefore I have engaged a cooperative division over the last few weeks
And we have begun training in the Wesley and Woodford Hill area. Soon we will establish a full fledge cooperative which will comprise of farmers, fisher folk, seamstresses, shop and restaurant owners among others. We intend through the cooperative to seek grant and funding from external organizations especially for our female farmers and our entrepreneurs,” he explained.
Sports in the constituency will also receive some attention. Minister Grant says plans are in place to rehabilitate the various sporting facilities around the constituency.
“Our sporting facilities in this fiscal year will see some upgrade. The rims for the Wesley basketball Hard court has been shipped and will be on island soon. Funds are available for the purchase of rims and the resurfacing of the Woodford Hill hard court. Over the last year, I have been responsible for cutting an maintaining the Londonderry playing field, and I stand here proud to inform the young men and women of the area that we have procured a heavy duty lawn mower and it will be used for the maintenance of the Londonderry playing field and the cricket pitch will be restored,” Honourable Grant added.
