Dominicans expecting packages including barrels from abroad this Christmas season will realize some savings at the port.
Minister for Ports, Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore announced at a press conference on Wednesday that clearance fees will be decreased significantly effective Thursday December 6th.
“As you know the Dominica Labour Party Administration is about making it easier for our people to get by. It has become tradition for barrels to come in large quantities around the Christmas Season. Last year we started a programme and this year we are going to continue it from Dec 6 to January 9, 2013. Persons will be allowed two barrels.”
“The items that are going to be allowed are mostly groceries, clothing items, toys etc. In terms of the value of items, the threshold is at one thousand, five hundred dollars EC and of course we have defined a barrel as a drum, a box and or the barrel itself and packages.”
Hon. Blackmoore explained that a flat ten dollar fee plus vat would be charged per package while import duties and service charges will be waived.
