The Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the National Cultural Council launched its new film and video screening equipment and services compliments the Government of Venezuela.
The launching took place on Friday, March 11th at the Arawak House of Culture.
The video and screening equipment was donated by ALBA Cultural, a cultural arm of ALBA and the brainchild of the late President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez.
ALBA Cultural has shown great interest in the enhancement of the Arawak House of Culture.
Chairman of the National Cultural Council and ALBA’s Cultural Coordinator to Dominica, Gregory Rabess, listed the donated items as projection equipment, a 16x9 foot screen, DVD players and high quality inputs.
At the launch, those in attendance got a firsthand view of the new equipment and services when three videos about Dominica were screened.
The videos being shown are Screw Pine produced by the Division of Culture, Are You Breathing produced by the Discover Dominica Authority and Pappy produced by Film Producer Sandra Vivas.
The feature film was Forward Ever, a film on the Grenada Revolution produced by Bruce Paddington of Trinidad & Tobago.
Hon. Minister for Culture, Justina Charles, pledged Government’s continued support to creativity and culture.
“Alongside the development of the film and video industry, Government has been supporting the provision of trainings for local film and video producers. The Cuban film Institute, the International Film School in Havana and the Venezuelan Film Institute provided facilitators for such trainings and workshops. Here, again, we are reaping tangible benefits of our membership in ALBA.”
Hon. Charles revealed that Government is working to make the Arawak House of Culture a place for local producers to showcase their talent.
She says the new equipment has surely brought them closer to achieving that goal.
She thanked the Government and people of Venezuela for their continued support to the development of Dominica.
