The Discover Dominica Authority will roll out several new initiatives for a bigger and better Mas Domnik 2016.
Chief Executive Officer of the Discover Dominica Authority and Director of Tourism, Colin Piper says this comes from recommendations following last year’s Carnival.
At a press conference on Wednesday, January 27th, Piper detailed the first initiative.
“DDA has commissioned a website which will be the go-to portal for national festival tourism. That will start with Mas Domnik 2016. The website will feature promotional information for upcoming festivals and promotional events which surround them. In the case of Carnival, the content covers history as well as information on all the events and activities on the calendar and the costume bands.
The site, www.dominicafestivals.com, includes registration details.
“As the portal grows, it will become a vital avenue for visitors and locals to know what there is to do at festive times in Dominica and it will become a vacation planning tool of sorts.
The portal went live on Thursday January 28th. DDA welcomes suggestions and additional information for the site. Emails should be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
The DDA wants Mas Domnik fans to look out for a Facebook contest on the DFC’s page to win tickets to upcoming Carnival events.
The second initiative is a Carnival Village.
“We have officially launched the village at forecourt of the Windsor Park Sports Stadium...to add value to the Carnival season outside of the usual events. We want to applaud the organisers, Kairi FM and Flow.”
The Carnival Village, still in pilot phase, will not however be the main hub for all Carnival related activity. This is because organizers of events not led by the DDA are free to maintain their already established relationships.
Meantime, the 1-3 pm gap following the parade of Carnival Monday has also been filled.
“We’re trying something. We want to put up a stage for entertainment in Old Street. We’re reaching out to steel pan groups in particular.”
