Dominica’s Low-Carbon climate resilient development strategy will be the focus of the country’s discussion when Dominica attends the Rio plus twenty Summit in Brazil later this month.
Speaking to the nation in an address to mark world environment day on Tuesday June 05th, 2012 Environment Minister, Hon. Dr.Kenneth Darroux said the strategy seeks to integrate a number of Dominica’s national developmental goals into a sustainable developmental pathway.
One of the main themes of this year’s Summit is “a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication”.
Minister Dr. Darroux said in an effortto internalize the UN call for the Green Economy, the Government of Dominica developed a Dominica Low-Carbon Climate Resilient Development Strategy signaling its intention to bring about a green economy by the year 2020.
According to that strategy, the Government will be seeking “more consciously to integrate green principles into national economic management and planning, and marry environmental preservation and management into our country’s strategy for achieving higher levels of sustained economic growth”.
The Rio plus 20 Summit provides a platform on which global matters with regards to sustainable development can be discussed and at the same time secure the consent of the highest political leadership.
The summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from June 20-22nd.
