A promise made by the Honourable Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit to seven charitable organizations has been fulfilled.
On Friday, March 24, the Hon Prime Minister , the Hon Minister for Social Services, Lady Catherine Daniel and other members of Cabinet met with the charitable organizations to hand over cheques promised to meet their capital needs based on their requests. Cabinet met with these institutions on December 15, 2016 where they shared their challenges and needs with government.
An amount of $462, 664.69 was presented for improvement of the facilities. The institutions which benefited are the Roseau Infirmary, Mahaut Home for the Aged, Community Hostel, House of Hope, Operation Youth Quake, PACIS, and Workshop for the Blind .
The Dominica leader commended the institutions for their work and explained that the funds are meant to improve on the condition of the facilities. He further assured that in the new financial year, Government will continue to work with these institutions to meet their recurring expenditures.
Social Services minister, Hon Daniel cautioned the institutions to be accountable for the funds made available to them.
“Some of you do not have operational boards in your facility and we want to ensure that these boards are working so that this money can be accounted for...,” she said.
She however, commended the institutions for their efforts and continued interest in their work.
