The Caribbean Climate Innovation Center (CCIC) in partnership with the National Development Foundation of Dominica is hosted a 3 Day Green Tech Start Up Boot Camp where entrepreneurs in Dominica got the opportunity to develop and pitch their business ideas to facilitators of the venture.
CCIC is one of the components under the Entrepreneurship Program for Innovation in The Caribbean (EPIC), a seven year INFODEV program funded by the government of Canada.
The program was coordinated through the NDFD which currently serves as the local hub for the Climate Innovation Center.
The CCIC hoped to identify and support Caribbean entrepreneurs and new ventures which develop locally appropriate solutions to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The boot camp targeted entrepreneurs who are focused on green technology.
Project Manager of the CCIC, Carlinton Burnell, described the boot camp as a valuable event.
“We are keenly interested in seeing the solution developed as a result of this session. I look forward to seeing not only the success stories but the huge impact your businesses will have on the Caribbean resulting from your experience in this boot camp.”
At the end of the boot camp, a group of entrepreneurs will be chosen as winners based on how well they have developed and pitched their green tech ideas.
The entrepreneurship boot camp program has been held in Jamaica, St. Lucia, Trinidad, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados and Belize.
Over 200 hundred potential entrepreneurs have been trained in ideation and presented with climate related market intelligence information to the six thematic areas.
Since 2014, the CCIC project is implemented jointly by a consortium comprising the Scientific Research Council (SRC) in Jamaica and the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) in Trinidad and Tobago.
