There will be zero tolerance for bad food at this year’s World Creole Music Festival.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Senior Environmental Health Officer, Clara Charles, remarked that measures are being taken by the Environmental Health Unit to ensure that food served at the WCMF is up to standard.
She said the Environmental Health Unit has, among other activities, increased the number of food handlers training sessions for the month and is currently conducting assessments of all vendor and caterer accommodations for the event. She said over the past month, 507 food handlers have been trained.
She further revealed that closer to the event the department will conduct vector control surveillance within the parameters of the Windsor Park Sports stadium, the venue of the festival.
Charles noted that throughout the event there will be monitoring of liquid and solid waste activities and food stalls will also be periodically assessed.
Charles advised vendors to “comply with the requirements of the environmental health department and ensure that they have hot holding equipment for hot foods; ensure that the food is stirred often and that the warmers are operating efficiently; ensure that they have adequate cold storage for frozen foods and for raw meat items and ensure that ice used for storage of beverages is not used for the serving of drinks.”
The 2016 World Creole Music Festival is scheduled for October 28, 29 and 30.
