Three men and three women have been sworn in to carry out the responsibilities of the Thibaud Village Council.
On Monday, October 3rd, the Thibaud Village Council held its 19th inaugural meeting.
H.E President Charles Savarin and Mrs. Savarin, Hon Acting Prime Minister, Ian Douglas along with several other government officials were in attendance.
Hon Douglas reaffirmed Government’s commitment to community development through the village councils.
“I am confident that the new council will come forward with its own vision for the community and I feel confident and I assure you that you will have the full support of the Government. You are fortunate to have the Minister of Finance as your Parliamentary Representative; and I can give the commitment here right now that we will support you one hundred percent, as we have done in the past, to assist you in realising your goals towards true, lasting and sustainable community development,” he said.
The Hon Minister for Youth, Sports and Culture, Justina Charles, spoke on behalf of the Hon Minister for Social Services, Lady Catherine Daniel.
She encouraged team effort within the council and support from community members to make Thibaud a better place.
“I therefore call for a spirit of cooperation between councils and community so that together your common objective can be achieved and you can move the community of Thibaud forward. Remember the old adage which states, ‘united you stand but divided you fall’”.
Outgoing Chairperson, who is also the incoming Chairperson of the council, Robert Bontiff, outlined some of the projects undertaken by the outgoing council.
“We have made tremendous strides in areas such as repairs and maintenance to community drains, enhanced and maintained road works, maintained tourism sites such as La Source and the beach; rebuilding of the fundraising center among others. One of our greatest achievements I must confess, however, is the revamping and the branding of our village feast which was unheard of for over twenty years,” he recounted.
