Convent High School’s Inoela Vital is Dominica’s top CSEC performer with 12 grade ones.
She is certain that the guidance of her teachers and the support of her parents led her to succeed in this year’s CSEC examinations.
On Friday, August 19th, a list of students who secured grade one passes in six or more subjects was presented by the Ministry of Education at a press conference.
The 16 year old told GIS News on Friday that the past few years have been a lot of work for her but she’s relieved that she has made it.
“It was a lot of work. I had to organize my time and try not to procrastinate when it’s really easy to.
I think teachers spent a lot of time and energy working with us and preparing us; this helped a lot. Plus I have some really good friends with whom I could practise French.
“My parents are my first teachers. They are really thrilled. I had a lot of support but I knew that no matter how I did, once I did my best, they would still be there for me and still be proud of me. I got my drive from them.”
The Convent High School graduate achieved her grade ones in: Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, English, History, Principles of Business, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Music, Additional Math and Electronic Document Preparation and Management.
Asked about extra-curricular activities, she said, “I play the saxophone and I am in my school’s sign language club.”
Vital had these words of advice for students who will be sitting the CSEC exams in the future: “It’s really important to understand what you are doing. A large part is studying but to really do well, you have to understand.”
One thousand two hundred and eighty-two candidates sat this year’s exam.
Dominica had a general average of 81.7% while the regional average was 64%.
