The Government of Dominica has allocated over half a million dollars for ongoing works in the Roseau Valley Constituency post tropical storm Erika. Four contracts were signed, all by contractors living in the Roseau Valley area.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room on Tuesday April 26.
Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Valley Constituency, Hon Dr. Colin McIntyre, assured constituents that the projects are just the beginning of big things to come.
Hon Dr. McIntyre gave details about the projects that will be undertaken in the community of Fond Canie.
The MP informed, “We will be constructing a retaining wall measuring 13 meters long, 3.5 meters high and the associated works with it. This contract is awarded $78,588.13…Mr. Curtis Luke has been selected to perform this duty and to construct this retaining wall.”
The community of Laudat has played an integral role in the tourism industry in Dominica. Hence the reason this community is benefiting greatly from the funds allocated for works in the Roseau Valley area.
“The second one we will look at is the road edge reinstatement along the Laudat main road; that is close to the Trafalgar/Laudat intersection. Mr. Curtis Luke was favorable and this project costs $91, 054. 70. A retaining wall will be constructed measuring 15 meters long by 3.5 meters high with the associated works.”
There will also be road edge reinstatement along the Titou Gorge road. The MP informed that “Mr. Harris Hodge of Laudat will be building this one for us costing $137, 568. 75. The fourth one that will be signed today is Mr. Alvin Charles for $199, 617 and that is for construction of a retaining wall measuring 30 meters long by 4.0 high and associated road works.”
The Hon Minister for Public Works, Senator Mirium Blanchard, revealed that these are not the only projects on the cards for the Roseau Valley constituency.
The Hon Minister explained that these include work on the Trafalgar bridge, Copthall bridge and the Papillote area to include the construction of a retaining wall. “Also the construction of drainage structures in Trafalgar near the church as well as in the Cabanese area. The Ministry intends to work very feverishly to come to the end of the design phase on those projects. Once those have been prepared to tender we shall inform the public,” she explained.
