Twelve storms have been named for the 2016 hurricane season, five of which are potential hurricanes and two could be major hurricanes. Disaster Risk Management Specialist and Consultant within the Office of Disaster Management, Cecil Shillingford expounded on those predictions in an interview with GIS news on Monday.

He noted that the first hurricane for the season ‘Hurricane Alex’ occurred in January.

He advised the general public to begin preparations for the season.

The 2016 hurricane season has been predicted to be a normal one but Shillingford cautioned citizens to be on the alert.

Some of the 2016 hurricane names include Bonnie, Colin, Danielle, Earl, Fiona and Gaston.
