Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Hon. Petter Saint Jean has assured the public that maintenance and repair works to most of the Government schools are complete in time for the new school year commencing Wednesday.

The Minister made the announcement when he addressed members of the media at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The Minister noted however that finishing touches are still being done on a few primary schools and that work will be done in such a way that there will be minimum interruptions to classes.

“As it stands we have a number of schools that are one hundred percent complete as it relates to our maintenance schedule. We must note however that works will continue at a few of our school plants throughout the next three to four weeks. Maintenance works are currently being carried out in St. Joseph, Pichelin, Penville and Campbell.”

Meanwhile the Minister is reporting that repair work on the North East Comprehensive School (NECS) is at a satisfactory phase which will allow students to attend school this week.

“From the information that I have from the technocrats within the Ministry of Education, all secondary schools including the North East Comprehensive School are in a satisfactory state and worthy to receive the children tomorrow (Wednesday).”

The Education Minister has advised that maintenance work on the North East Comprehensive will continue at the school this week and is expected to span over the next three weeks.

He disclosed further that the Ministry of Education had to procure specialized windows for that school which will be installed during the next few weeks.

“As was said by my Chief Education Officer we have sourced windows from Barbados which are more durable from what obtained. These windows should be on island within the next few weeks” he added.

The Minister informed the Media that the Ministry of Education has engaged a contractor who has given the commitment that the repair works will be carried out at the NECS in the shortest possible time with very little interruptions to classes.

“Work on the installation of the windows at the NECS will take place in the afternoon and night hours” he affirmed.
