The Hon. Minister For Information, Science, Telecommunications And Technology, Kelver Darroux has thrown out a challenge to Dominica’s youth to be more creative with information communication technology.
The Hon. Minister was speaking at the launch of Government’s One Tablet Per Child Initiative in Grand Bay last week.
He said Government has identified the use of technology as key to enhancing the education sector.
“Be innovative,” he asserted, “Utilise your skills and talents to create and develop apps suitable for our local markets. Become entrepreneurs in this field and develop a bright and sustainable future for yourselves. The Government will soon be completing the Centre for Excellence for ICT and within the walls of that structure, the platform to propel you to maximize your skills and abilities will be set.”
Hon. Darroux says the initiative breaks socioeconomic barriers in the society as every child will have equal access and therefore equal opportunity.
He encouraged the students to engage in positive activities.
Telecommunications provider, Digicel has provided free wireless internet to the Pierre Charles Secondary School and it is anticipated that wireless access will be updated at all secondary schools on the island.
During the course of the week, more secondary school students will receive their tablets.
