The first cruise ship for the 2015/2016 season has proved to be more than expected.
So says President of the Combined Taxi Association, Phillip Guiste.
The Carnival Royal Princess docked at Woodbridge Bay port on Monday October 5th bringing thousands of visitors to Dominica’s shores.
“I think this ship has delivered beyond expectations this morning. We expect the season to continue in that vein and if it does, the n it will be a great season,” Guiste said.
A number of initiatives are being looked at to allow for an even better visitor experience.
“We are expecting the rules by the Minister to be brought to Parliament then we will be able to activate a disciplinary committee to assist us in curbing the challenges which we have which is mainly undercutting.”
He added that another challenge is the deportment and attitude of some taxi drivers.
Meanwhile the visitors are looking forward to the Dominica experience.
“This morning, when we woke up and I saw the colorful buildings on the side slopes, I thought this is what a true Caribbean looks like. It was wonderful. It’s warm and there’s no rain but a lovely spot. I would love to come back again,” said George Twarog. “This afternoon we’re going on a river rafting tour and I’m hoping to enjoy that…Maybe another time, we’ll come back and spend more time here, it looks like a very inviting place.”
One hundred and seventy-four calls are expected this season.
