On Thursday August 13th, the Dominica Labour Party Administration led by the Hon. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, kept it real in the Kalinago Constituency.

Holding true its election campaign promise to become more accessible to citizens, the DLP Government convened its second of a series of town hall meetings. This time at the Salybia Primary School.

According to the nation’s leader, there are no quick fix solutions and in a very realistic way, pledged his support to constituents and by extension, the country.

Prime Minister Skerrit noted that the Kalinago Territory has been first in many instances to benefit tremendously from Government’s social and safety net programmes.

In response to a question of equality raised by a y resident, Hon. Skerrit assured that the Kalinago Territory is very dear to the heart of his Government.

Meantime, Member of Parliament for the Salybia Constituency, Hon. Casius Darroux says the wellbeing of the indigenous people is and will remain at the forefront of government’s endeavours.

He says over the years, Government has made visual representation of its commitment to the Kalinago people.

With the livelihoods of that area based mainly on subsistence farming, Hon. Darroux was pleased to announce Government’s plan to construct an agricultural station in the Kalinago Territory.

“Today,” he said, “we’ve seen the expansion of farms thus…generating economic activity on a small scale. This is the reason the Kalinago Territory, Atkinson and Antrizzle will, for the first time, witness a mini but modern agriculture station in Sapit.

“Land has been identified and surveyed and the Ministries of Kalinago Affairs and Agriculture are working aggressively to ensure that the project is properly managed and implemented in a timely manner. This station will have a storage centre for eco-friendly agricultural chemicals, fertilizer and other much-needed inputs for sustainable and productive agriculture production.”

He added that modern practices will be employed at the station.

In the 2015/2016 National Budget address, $2m was allocated to the Ministry for Kalinago Affairs.
