The Adult Education Division and the National Co Operative Credit Union Vieille Case Branch collaborated to host a five-week Parenting Education Seminar under themed Persevering In Spite Of The Odds from May 13 to June 10th 2015.
Participants from the communities of Penville, Vieille Case, Tibaud, Paix Bouche and Bense were presented with their certificates at the event’s end of July 15th.
According to organizers, the courses were designed to equip parents with necessary skills that wil make them better parents.
Adult Education Zone Officer, Carol Charles-White remarked that participation was exceptional and she hopes that participants will use the skills in their daily lives.
She notes that the Division will continue to hold these courses for as long as they are needed.
Participants attended 2 ½ hour sessions every Wednesday. They learned effective communication in the family, drug prevention, small business management, the importance of savings and preparing a budget.
President of the NCCU, Dexter Ducreay says that the NCCU is not just about business but is also about the betterment of the nation.
“We are not about just you coming to the institution and taking a loan. We are not just a credit union, we are a cooperative first and cooperatives focus on development and making a better society for all of us. “
Out of the 70 participants, 20 received certificates of participation while 50 received certificates of completion.
