The Hon. Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Roosevelt Skerrit, has revealed some of the areas that will take precedence in the next budget address come July 24th, 2015.
The Dominica leader spoke to state-owned DBS Radio earlier this week.
Areas of focus will include infrastructure, agriculture and job creation.
He stated, “No country has been immune to the 2008 financial crisis but there are important matters which we have to carry though as country in terms of the infrastructure, economy and job creation.”
He listed the operationalization of the abattoir as one of those focal points.
“There are important measures relating to tourism and agriculture as well as continued efforts for small business [development] and expanding the private sector. The housing programme and we will continue to make financing accessible to farmers.”
Speaking more specifically he said, “In large measure we will be focusing on some of the imperatives in agriculture, tourism services and job creation but also critically more attention will be placed on our own individual responsibility to ourselves and our country.
“It is important for us to send a message that if we want the country to get to a particular point, then we have to make a contribution to that effort. So we will be calling on people to take up [particular] responsibilities and make a greater contribution to their own development and that of the country.”
The 2015/2016 Budget address will form part of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament on July 24, 2015, from 10 am.
