The Hon. Acting Prime Minister, Reginald Austrie, is calling for the expansion of human resource capacity within village councils.

He says this will allow more work to get done in communities.

“We see that central government is passing on so many responsibilities to local government to make funding available for local projects that would have been normally done by Government. We are now giving you the responsibility to execute those projects.

“I agree with your Parliamentary Representative. He said do not worry about the roads or housing or water; Government will take care of that through you. Your responsibility should be to assist in the development of your human resource capacity and to continue to make Soufriere the pleasant place of which you all boast,” he said.

The Hon. Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere Constituency, Ian Pinard shared similar sentiments. He also focused on beautification and sanitation.

“I think the communities of Soufriere, Scott’s Head and Galleon are tourism hot spots and I think it’s time we start concentrating on cleaning and beautification. We have started through the National Employment Programme [but] I want us to concentrate on that.”

The two were speaking at the 17th inaugural meeting of the Soufriere, Scott’s Head, Galleon Village Council on Wednesday, June 10th.

The new councilors for the next three years are Higgs Adams, Lucien Alfred, Conrad Caesar, Delbert Mitchel, Pamela Delsol, Weefers Jules and Selina St. Hiliare.

The new Chairman is Heston Charles.
