The Roosevelt Skerrit-led Government is actively pursuing two major housing projects for the Bath Estate community as part of its wider Housing Revolution Programme.
Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau South Constituency Hon. Ambrose George made the disclosure earlier this week.
The need to provide adequate, suitable and equitable housing has remained a major priority for the DLP government =-nd Hon.Ambrose George says these new housing projects is in keeping with that thrust.
“You may have heard of the two areas which have been selected for the new housing apartments which will be built commencing sometime this year. One is at the old site of the Survey’s department and the other one is the playing field in Elmshall located close to the river”.
Since assuming office, the labor party Government has undertaken several initiatives to improve the housing conditions of the poor and underprivileged in rural communities across the island.
Mr. George said plans are to commence the two new projects in the Bath Estate area before year’s end.
“The designs are very advanced and very soon before year end we will see the commencement of the construction of those apartment buildings”.
The Parliamentary representative is hoping that the apartments when built will assist in fulfilling the housing needs on the island.
“I know there are several young people in particular from the Bath Estate and adjoining areas that will benefit from those new apartment buildings.
The two housing projects will be constructed on Government owned lands and will compliment government’s policy for providing adequate comfortable housing for all Dominicans.
Government is of the view that improved investments in the housing environment can result in improved well being of all nationals.
