Come summer 2012, Government will spend an estimated one million dollars on repairs and maintenance of schools across the country.
This was confirmed by Education Minister, Hon. Petter Saint Jean during an interview with GIS News last week.
He says, “The population at secondary schools is expected to undergo a serious change with the incoming students. Every year about this time, my ministry, the Ministry of Education puts structures and mechanisms in place to address the whole issue of school repairs and maintenance. This year is absolutely no exception. We have already put systems in place, we have identified a number of schools that will undergo serious maintenance and repair works. In some cases the repair work will be [minimal] but in some cases we have schools that will undergo tremendous [reconstruction].”
The minister also mentioned that Government is working towards the commencement of the actual construction work at the Newtown Primary School.
He says “So this year the Ministry of Education will spend in excess of one million dollars ensuring that schools are up to speed in preparation for the new school year.”
This is in keeping with Government’s policy to ensure that all students receive a quality education in an environment that is conducive to learning.
